The men and women who dedicate their lives protecting our freedom are the unsung heroes who deserve whatever support we can give them. The Piracle team wants to show their support by donating a portion of their supplies sales to help the troops and their families.
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) is a nonprofit organization that provides college scholarships and stipends to children of fallen warriors, money for families with severely wounded soldiers and support for those families who have lost loved ones in the field. In 2011, the SOWF received $14.2 million in donations, none of which came from the federal or state government.
Piracle began donating a portion of their proceeds in August of 2012, and thus far has donated almost $2,000. The team hopes to donate even more with this Fourth of July sale.
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation is an important charity to give to because it makes a huge difference in many family’s lives. In a letter thanking Piracle for their help and donations, the President and CEO of SOWF John T. Carney said that the foundation is helping 140 children of special operations soldiers attend college, and has donated over $1,800,000 over the past three years to families who have a wounded service member. Piracle is proud to have been able to contribute to that effort.
Lina Barkey, a technical sales consultant for Piracle and previously a Sergeant US Army Intelligence Analyst, said she knows how important it is for her team to be helping this cause because it’s a way to support those who have sacrificed everything.
“It’s important that Piracle donates to SOWF to show continued support of the surviving family members of the brave men and women that have paid the ultimate price to ensure basic human rights and freedom to those who have never experienced (them),” she said. “To do our little part to say ‘thank you’ to the families for their sacrifice and to ensure they too have access to continued education they may not otherwise have.”
Alyssa Olson, Special Operations Warrior Foundation Business Relations Manager, said how grateful the organization and families of the Special Operations personnel are for Piracle and their donations.
“With the continued support of businesses like Piracle our special operations personnel can rest a little easier, knowing that if anything should happen to them, their families will be taken care of,” she said. “Thanks to the generous help of Piracle the SOWF can continue to promise that every child of a fallen special operations warrior will receive a college education and the families of every severely wounded special operations warrior will have the financial assistance to be by their loved ones bedside.”
SOWF began in 1980 as the Bull Simons Fund, providing college educations to 17 children surviving the nine special operations men killed in an Iranian hostage rescue attempt. After more special operations casualties, the fund expanded, and finally encompassed all Special Operations forces. In 1995, the SOWF was created after merging with the Spectre Association Scholarship Fund, and later in 1998, expanded again to include 205 more children to assist with college funding. Around 220 children with this program have graduated from college.
The Piracle Team hopes to donate more to these children who deserve a college education, and families who are in need. You can help by purchasing supplies during our Independence Day sale through July. For more information go to www.Piracle.com.
